Workshops
Creative stitch/embroidery workshops for anyone who loves textiles and art. Have a nice day away to discover the creativity within.

I give workshops at my home/studio on the Welsh/Shropshire border and I am often asked to deliver workshops for textiles groups like the Embroiderers' Guild, Quilt Groups and the WI.
Below is a list of workshops coming up (with dates) and also others that I have done in the past (without dates) that could be arranged for a date to suit you.
Do email me if you would like to book anything: stevietextiles@btinternet.com
I will check if there are places available and on confirmation I will send directions and a list of what to bring.
Drinks and home-made cakes are provided. Bring your own packed lunch.
All are welcome and most workshops are suitable for beginners.

An introduction to this lovely Indian embroidery/quilting technique which used the simplest of stitches, running stitch, in very ingenious ways. We will learn to embroider shapes and motifs, pattern-darned borders and much more. Ideas for a variety of projects will be given that can be finished off at home. A list of what to bring will be supplied and a variety of threads will be available to purchase on the day.
'Saxon Samplers - Bayeux work and beyond'
FULL
(I have a waiting list with a view to possibly repeating this workshop, so do get in touch if you were disappointed)
Saturday 10 May 2025 10am - 4pm £50
At my home/studio - email me to book.

Learn the basics of this ancient technique which is quite a simple form of 'laid work' or 'couching'. It can then be used in the traditional way or can be used for quite contemporary designs. Lovely natural linens and gorgeous wools were historically used, but a variety of modern threads enhance the work. Text can be added and also decoration with gems and gold thread. I am addicted to this wonderful textural stitching and fascinated with the history. A list of what to bring will be supplied. Ground fabric will be provided in the price and threads will be available to purchase on the day.

'Creative Hand Stitch Mark-Making'
At my home/studio - dates tba

Try out different methods of mark-making with a variety of stitches and threads and build up your own stitch sampler which will look beautiful in its own right. We will look at basic stitches and see what effects can be achieved with each one.
'Sewing Machine Sketches'

At my home/studio. Dates tba.
Machine line drawing with free motion machine embroidery. Learn how to set up the machine and build a repertoire of machine stitch 'mark-making' and patterns. These can then be used to produce sketches and drawings by machine. We will look at designing with line and practise line drawing with different media on paper.

'Cloth Townscapes and Landscapes'
At my home/studio. Dates tba.

Have a go at my project that featured in the EG's 'Stitch Magazine' that uses a combination of textile techniques. Outlines are worked using free motion machine embroidery onto plain calico. The image is then painted using acrylic inks and Inktense pencils. Last but not least, the piece is embellished with beautiful hand stitch embroidery. This project is suitable for those with experience in free-motion machine work. If you have never done this before I recommend the 'Sewing Machine Sketches' workshop above to learn the basics before you progress to this workshop.
